Expectations of Students

  • Must be willing to aim for an A2 at least. This is attainable for most students starting in Secondary three with one 2hrs lesson per week. You just have to be willing to understand the simple ideas and memorize the sequence in solving questions... All ideas are simple and all sequences are 5 steps or less!!!
  • Secondly, to schedule lessons at least 2 days beforehand unless due to emergencies. Sudden changes shall be limited to 1 rescheduling per every 4 lessons. Frequent sudden changes make it hard for students who geniunely cannot make it for their scheduled time to reschedule.. As such, sudden changes over the limit will be charged at full fees so as to ensure smooth scheduling. So long as 3 days' notice is given, changes can be made whenever you please at no extra cost. Likewise, should I be the one who reschedule last minute, the next lesson will be free.

How do you measure whether you will be ready for the GCE O level Additional/Elementary Mathematics papers without needing to cram last minute?

In Secondary 3, our focus is on learning concepts and ideas. As such, we will not be practising exams techniques and practising papers until June of Secondary 4. So long as you are passing all your school tests, scoring above 60% for your mid year and year end examinations at the minimum. There is nothing to worry about, you will be ready with minimum effort when it comes to Secondary 4.

In Secondary 4, we will complete the syllabus and complete 1 round of topical revision before May to ensure that you have 5 months to troubleshoot whatever is necessary to attain the target you have set for yourself. As such, you will not be well prepared for the midyear (as we will complete the syllabus irregardless of where your school is stopping at, thus diluting your focus on current school topics) and a percentage score around 60% is fine. Below that, it means that your natural examination skills need quite a bit of working on. In which case, we will rush things along to ensure that there is sufficent time to sort out the problems you have.

The prelims are important because it is the final examination condition test of your ability before you go for the real thing. You need to make sure you learn how to react correctly in whatever situation so that you won't be nervous in the actual O level. Take the preliminary seriously and aim for >75%. Should you meet this target, you can go into maintainance mode and thus have much more time to practice for your other subjects. There is no point doing well in mathematics and faring badly for your other subjects. If we find that the preliminary are <70%, then we have much improvements to make.
