Preliminary Examinations results

This year's preparation seems to be on track for a decent O level showing. Plenty of 70s percentages (which I am determined not to allow to slack this time. The objective is to average around 83%... remember an A2 is the same thing to me as an A1... (I am shameless and would proclaim " xx% As!!! Cool) ... on the other hand, to YOU, an A2 is twice as bad as an A1... therefore I will do the slacking and you will do the slugging if you want to get an A1. Daryl's efforts impress me most especially considering the nasty figures his evil teachers used in the papers. Jerome's on the other hand, despite scoring better... make me a little worried because he deserve his A1s (and he has them for his prelims) but a little lazy and run the risk of failing to an A2 for his O levels if he think he has done enough. Vanessa should have no problem.

Of coz, I have a couple of C5 for the prelims. However, I am pleased with them. Amanda S at least have hopefully realised that being greedy is NOT the way to get better grades after our agreement that she is NOT to attempt any questions which is not standard (I can't sleep well whenever I have students who started in Sec 3 midyear and yet fail their Sec 3 year end and Sec 4 midyear). Amanda's biggest problem is her outrageously poor exam techniques and equally poor checking skills. At the prelims, I think we have solved her technique issue and all that remains is the tiny matter of losing >20% marks to carelessness with figures. Faith on the other hand... have good exam techniques and checking skills... but due to the fact that we are having lessons for only 3 months thus far... still lack consistency in the core questions (which Amanda is consistent at but lose tonnes of marks on carelessness in calculations). Both of you however stand a good chance with non core questions and thus it is still very much possible to try for an A2 as you both have only 1 problem each. Amanda with exam/checking skills. Faith with better mastery of the 30 stock questions. My only fear is that Amanda will get caught into wasting plenty of time on the tougher questions again now that she has to attempt these for her O levels if we are to stand a chance of an A2.

The other Amanda's results ain't out yet but she should be ok (Amanda L... this Amanda... impress me with her good attitude towards work). Glen should be ok for his upcoming N level considering that no one in his class will attain an A1 if he fail to.

Now if only I can work successfully to resolve Amanda's checking problem... and whip Faith into working on the necessary standard techniques for the core questions... I would have a good year to make up for last year's poor results (no fault of last years' students... the blame lies on my doorstep for not pressuring them to aim for 80%. And thus most of them fell merely a few marks short of A2.)
