Revamping of maths tuition revision schedule

Due to the fact that moderation have made it extremely costly to make mistakes in core questions and the fact that I am still of the view that demanding that students perform well in thinking questions is less effective than ensuring that core questions are done correctly and accurately. My previous requirement that 80% of core questions must be mastered will be readjusted to 90%. The number of core questions will still be capped at 30+ questions to ensure that it is not a unreasonable burden.

In addition, in view of the fact that A1 in the GCE O level Additional Mathematics examination is approximately at 83% and A2 is at 78% in the 2007 Papers... you will have to hit 80% in a paper of 2007 standards. The killer topics Permutation & Combination, Set Notation and Relative Velocity which on average result in a loss of 10-20 marks (of the 25marks allocated to these) for a student of average aptitude are now out. Now the only tolerable "cannot make it" topic should be Geometrical Proofs but only in the event that it is as tough as the standard implied in the textbook. Advanced trigonomentry may be tough but it can be broken down into standard approaches albeit rather time consuming to master.

Revision will now be in 5 Phases.

Phase I (March/April/ May)
  • Topical revision of Sec 3 topics to refresh proficiency.

Phase II (June)
  • Mock Papers I/II with purely stock questions( Until 85% score is attained twice in a row)

Phase III (June)
  • Mock Papers I/II with only killer questions( No requirement)

Phase IV (July/August)
  • Mock Papers I/II which imitiate the mixture expected of the actual O level ( Must hit 80% consistently)

Phase V* (September & October)
  • Maintanance Phase plus cramming the day before actual papers.

*Phase V is to ensure that you have more than ample time for your other subjects. You will only be required to spend 4hrs of preparatory time per week on Maths. Assuming your revision hours is 32hrs per week. And you have 8 subjects. This means that by right, 8hrs should be allocated to the Maths subjects. So if things go as planned, your early prep for Maths will allow you additional time to revise the other subjects.

E Maths topical troubleshooting must be completed when Phase I end. Paper practice will commerce when Phase II start. Please be aware that you are responsible for highlighting which are the topics you are less than excellent with so that we can work on these. Less than excellent is defined as being unable to get questions of O level E Maths standards 90% of the time. This is because the scope of E Maths is extremely wide and it is impossible to do it one by one. So please follow the instructions I already gave you at the start of the year. Sufficent preparation practically guarantee at least an A2 even if you are not smart. So please do not joke with your own grades.

Shortlist of Core Questions will be provided as soon as all topics are taught.

A Maths Paper 1 & 2 consist of 180 marks. 80% is 144 marks. 90% is 162 marks. Should you feel that a B3 is intolerable even in bad luck situation... you should aim for 155 marks consistently.

This target apply to all students who started tuition in Sec 3.
